The French hill station of Sapa is the most popular destination in the far northwest of Vietnam for both general tourists and adventurous trekkers. Using Sapa as a base, you can hike to more remote villages belonging to some of the local ethnic minorities and sometimes be offered a bed for the night. The spectacular scenery of mountains and terraced rice fields, as well as the colorful ethnic costumes, make Sapa a photographer's paradise.
