Luang Say Mekong Cruises has three boats travelling from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang, or, from Luang Prabang to Huay Xai.

All programs stop over for one night in our Luang Say Lodge in Pakbeng.

Our boats are 34 metres long with a 420 HP engine and a steel hull for strength and safety. The boats have a capacity for 40 people seated in comfortable chairs and benches. Each seat has an open air vista. We also have coffee tables with magazines and booklets to read during your cruise. The central section of our Luangsay boats have bench seats, a perfect spot for a game of cards, to share your Mekong stories, or to have lunch.

Each cruise departure has an English speaking guide who are able to answer your questions and point out the many sights of interest along the way. We also have a fearless captain, a qualified mechanic and a boat boy.

On board we have two western style toilets, one at the back of the boat as well as one next to the bar in the central section. Life jackets are available in a variety of sizes including sizes for children. There are also rails around the sides of the boat for passenger safety. Luggage can be stored and locked securely overnight in a large compartment underneath the deck.

Luang Say Boat

DAY 1: HUAY XAI - VILLAGE - PAKBENG

09h30: The Luang Say boat leaves Houei Sai pier at 9.30am (please be at Lao immigration office no later than 8.30) for a cruise down the Mekong River to Pakbeng.

After completing Thai immigration formalities, our Luang Say representative will help you get a shuttle bus to cross the bridge and go to Lao immigration.

Our Luangsay staff in Houei Say (Houayxay) will then welcome you to Laos and help with Lao immigration formalities.

We will then transfer everyone to the Luangsay cruise boat, which is parked at the slow boat pier in Houei Say (about 1 kilometer out of the town center). Every slow boat docks here from huge Chinese cargo boats, to small cross-river ferries, to long low-slung Lao passenger boats and many more.

10h30: After one-hour journeying along the river, the boat stops at a traditional village. This is a chance to observe rural life along the Mekong and witness the daily life of ethnic minorities and their talented craftsmanship.

12h30: Lunch is served on board in a buffet style with a main course from Laos’ main culinary delights as well as a choice of fish and meat dishes.

16h00: The river cruise arrives at Luang Say Lodge near Pakbeng before sunset, giving plenty of time to refresh, enjoy the scenery of the river and admire the surrounding nature.
