Day 1: Cai Be - Sadec - Can Tho (L, D)

Pick up from at 07:00 Am at hotel in Saigon, transfer to Cai Be, embank the Song Xanh, The excursion starts at around 10.am from our pier in Phu An hamlet located next to Cai Be town, approximately 2 hours drive south from Saigon. Upon embarkation on your sampan you will be welcomed by our crew. After your installation, the cruise will begin with the visit of some local home factories where you will be able to observe how rice paste, coconut candies and other specialties are traditionally made. We will then proceed to Cai Be colorful floating market, cruising among local barges full of fruits and vegetables. Your sampan will take direction of Vinh Long and Sa Dec, cruising upstream on the Tien Giang River, one of the two large arms of the Mekong. These evergreen islands among the Mekong River bring about large networks of meandering rivers, criss-crossed with countless arroyos, and remain unknown to many people. We will then cruise on a small beautiful canal through water jacinth plantations You will disembark to take a small rowing boat for a cruise along a narrow canal passing by a local tiny village and fruit plantations. Further on the banks, some dark smokes in the sky will lead us to one of the largest artisanal bricks and tiles factory where you will have an interesting visit. Sa Dec town will appear like a little Venice with numerous narrow canals. You will disembark at the local market place for a guided visit of this charming town, walking along its narrow streets where beautiful French old houses and Chinese temples dating from the last century are numerous. Your lunch will await you at an ancient house dating from 1890, home of Mr. Huyen Thuy Le, the Lover of Marguerite Duras famous writer. (see her novel and adapted movie The Lover) Back on board your sampan, you will enjoy cruising down to Can Tho along a beautiful narrow canal, passing under several wooden monkey bridges and by tiny typical villages. Some stops on the banks will be possible to establish contacts with the local population. A visit will be done at a Cao Daist temple. Before sunset, we will have our last stop on the banks arranged at a splendid ancient house or Nha Co dating from the early 19th century. After being greeted by the owners, we will cater a candlelight dinner for you, an unforgettable experience in a unique atmosphere. After dinner, we will proceed the cruise for approximately one hour until Can Tho. We will moor for the night in a quiet place. Your bed will be ready for your night on the Mekong river.

 

Day 2: Cai Rang - Can Tho (B)

Song Xanh Sampan bedroomAt around 06am, your sampan will slowly start cruising. Your breakfast will be served on board at 07am while approaching Cai Rang floating market actually still the largest in the whole Mekong delta. We will pass by countless sampan boats carrying sand, rice, fruits and vegetables, fish, flowers showing an intense activity on the river. Your cruise journey will end at around 10.am at Ninh Kieu pier after a visit at Can Tho local market where you will be transfer back to Saigon. Drop off at your hotel in Saigon. MEKONG CROSSROADS (3-Day Cruise) - “CAI BE – SA DEC – CAN THO

 

DAY 1: CAI BE - SA DEC

Meet us at Phu An Jetty at 10am and start with a bicycle ride around this rural area, ending up at Le Longanier Restaurant. Lunch is served in this exquisite colonial-style villa set in a lush tropical garden by the river. After lunch, board the Song Xanh Sampan for a leisurely cruise on the busy waterways of the Mekong Delta, with stops along the way to visit local cottage industries that utilize products from the Delta like rice and coconuts. Before arriving in Sa Dec, stop to visit a traditiona brick factory where everything is made by hand. Dinner is served on board. Enjoy your first night on board your sampan as it moors on the Mekong River.

 

 

DAY 2: SA DEC - CAN THO

After breakfast on board, step ashore and take a stroll to a lively outdoor market. Visit the historic house of the real-life character in the acclaimed novel and film “The Lover” by Marguerite Duras

Back on board, cruise towards Can Tho along narrow canals passing several monkey bridges. Lunch is served on board before another shore excursion to a Cao Dai temple. Board a small rowing sampan to further explore the small armlets of the river. Your last stop before sunset is at an ancient house dating back to the 19th  century where a dramatic candlelit dinner wi be served. After dinner, return to the Song Xanh as it continues its cruise towards Can Tho. Overnight on board.

 

DAY 3: CAN THO

We set off early at about 6:30 am to visit the famous Cai Rang Floating Market. Breakfast is served on board while the Song Xanh navigates towards the market among local barges laden with fruit and vegetables. Be sure to have your camera ready for photos from this unique vantage point! Later on, cruise towards Victoria Can Tho and disembark at the hotel’s private jetty.

DAY 2 - SA DEC - LONG XUYEN - PHU TAN

Breakfast is served on board while you cruise towards Long Xuyen along a narrow canal, passing several scenic monkey bridges. After enjoying lunch on board, arrive in Long Xuyen to visit Tiger Island, birthplace of Vietnam’s second president. Return to the sampan for dinner and resume your cruise towards Chau Doc.Your boat sails until approximately 10:00 pm before anchoring for the night. Overnight on board.

 

 

 

 

DAY 3 - PHU TAN - CHAU DOC

Breakfast is served on board while your sampan cruises towards Chau Doc. Close to the border with Cambodia, Chau Doc is the gateway to Phnom Penh. Known throughout Vietnam for its pagodas and temples, Chau Doc is also famous for the Tra Su Bird Sanctuary, a superb eucalyptus mangrove. Disembark at Victoria Chau Doc private pier at approximately 10h00am.

After enjoying lunch on board, arrive in Long Xuyen to visit Tiger Island, birthplace of Vietnam’s second president. Return to the sampan for dinner and resume your cruise towards Rach Gia. Enjoy your second night on board.

 

DAY 3: RACH GIA

Arrive in Rach Gia at around 7:00 am, the capital of Kien Giang Province, located on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand. Breakfast is served on board before disembarkation. For travelers traveling early to Phu Quoc, we can serve breakfast as early as 6:00 am.
