1. Hanoi

Hanoi, the quaint yet bustling capital city of Vietnam, is definitely a must-go destination on your school holiday in Vietnam. Colonial past, Chinese influence, traditional Red River Delta’s aspect – your students will be stunned at this city’s unique history and culture. Do not miss these places on your school tour in Hanoi:

Old Quarter Area

This is a unique place in Hanoi where houses and streets in traditional architecture are still well preserved and students can, at the same time, appreciate traditional arts and crafts. Some streets of the Old Quarter you should know are Silver Street (Hang Bac), Silk Street (Hang Dao), Sugar Street (Hang Duong) and Leather Street (Hang Da).

Hoa Lo Prison

Hoa Lo prison (also known as Hanoi Hilton) was built by the French for political prisoners. For those who want to discover the history of Vietnam War, this prison is a cannot-miss site in Hanoi.

Temple of Literature

This place represents our traditional fondness for learning as well as the diligence, intelligence and hard work of students under feudal era.

Vietnam Museum of Ethnology

The Ethnology Museum of Vietnam is a cultural museum in Hanoi that focuses on exhibitions of 54 officially recognized ethnic groups in Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is the last resting place of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnamese revolutionary leader.  Students will have a chance to hear a story of our national hero and his vulgar life.

2. Halong Bay

Recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage in 1994 and 2000, Halong Bay is a surreal landscape with a system of imposing limestone mountains, magnificent grottoes floating on the emerald water, as well as mist-shrouded bays dotted with various fishing villages.

3. Ninh Binh

This province is 100 KM to the south of Hanoi famous with Hoa Lu temple, Tam Coc rice fields, Bich Dong pagoda, Trang An grottoes, Van Long lagoon, Bai Dinh Pagoda, Cuc Phuong National Park… In 2016, the KING KONG film was shot there.

4. Mai Chau

Located in the Northern countryside of Vietnam, this is the place for cycling, relaxing and taking part in interesting team-building activities. Stunning rice paddles, unique stilt houses, and peaceful ethnic villages are the main reason for a cycling tour to Mai Chau.

5. Hue

Located on the bank of Perfume River, Hue is well-known with the bustling streets, natural landscape and unique architecture including the perfume river, tombs, pagodas and many temples. Hue had been recognized as one of the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

6. Da Nang – Hoi An

Da Nang has everything travelers need for an amazing vacation in Vietnam: turquoise beaches (My Khe, Non Nuoc,…), romantic Han River, spectacular Marble Mountains, mesmerizing Hoi An Ancient Town, and interesting Sun World Ba Na Hills Amusement Park.

Do not forget to visit Hoi An Ancient Town on your Vietnam school vacation. Used to be a major international trading port in the 16th and 17th centuries, this town is a perfect place for your students to explore genuine Vietnamese architecture, enjoy delicious local dishes, and learn to make traditional crafts.

7. Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City (also known as Saigon) is the most dynamic and bustling city in Vietnam. It is remarkable for the harmonious blending of Vietnamese and Western cultural features. Some must-see attractions in Saigon are:

Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral

Built in 1880 by the French, the cathedral is located in the center of Ho Chi Minh City. It includes two high towers of 55 meters and six bronze bells. All materials were imported from France, including red bricks from Toulouse, giving the cathedral a brilliant color.

Reunification Palace (or Independence Palace)

The former Independence Palace was built in 1973 by a Vietnamese architect called Ngo Viet Thu. Formerly the Norodom Palace, it was then used by the Governors-General of French Indochina. Ngo Dinh Diem used it from 1956 as a presidential palace.

War Remnants Museum (Bao tang Chung tich Chien tranh)

The museum contains a large number of photos and documents relating to war crimes. In particular, there is a large collection dedicated to the effects of Agent Orange: photos of deformed children, bottles containing chemical substances, etc. The museum’s courtyard is filled with tanks and helicopters used during the war.

Cu Chi Tunnels

The network of over 200 km of tunnels was used during the Vietnam War for Viet Cong to hide.  Going down the tunnel, you will be amazed at how interconnected the tunnels were, just like a spider web!

8. Mekong Delta

This region will thrill your students with exotic experiences: shopping at a floating market, picking fruits in an orchard, cycling in a bucolic village, riding boats through capujut forests, and exploring Khmer culture in some ancient pagodas.

Packing Tips

Do not go crazy about packing when it comes to a Vietnam educational trip. Minimize footwear, a good pair of walking shoes is a must. Pay attention to Vietnam Seasons since you will experience different weather in different regions. Cotton shirts, jeans, cardigans and other sun protection items will also be needed.

Be Aware of some Vietnam Travel Risks

Travel insurance is a must for any trip abroad since students may be susceptible to food, weather, and local diseases. When students have insurance, teachers and parents can rest assured that if the unfortunate such as lost luggage or health problem does occur, part of the loss will be covered.

Extreme weather, tropical diseases, food poisoning and theft are some Vietnam travel risks you should be aware. It’s a good idea to keep a spare copy of your passports, itineraries and other identification documents. A signed behavior contract will help you make sure that students will remain disciplined without parents.

Overcome Jetlag

Traveling to another country is a rewarding yet tiring experience for students which can affect their physical and mental health. Planning your trip carefully before departure, staying hydrated, eating healthily, and trying to sleep on the plane are some pieces of advice to adapt to a new time zone.

Think Globally, Act Locally

Don’t wear shorts, skirts and sleeveless tops when entering a religious site. Wear long pants or dresses, cover your shoulders, remove your hats and leave your shoes at the door.

Vietnamese people dress conservatively and do not reveal too much skin, so make sure you respect our customs.

Tipping is not mandatory in Vietnam. However, a small tip is fine if you are satisfied with the service.

When meeting a new Vietnamese friend, it is not common for giving a kiss or a hug. A smile is fine and you may shake hands. Be polite and always thank the host after the meal if you are invited to attend a Vietnam meal.
