This 7-day Bach Moc Luong Tu trekking tour takes you from Hanoi to the remote mountains of Bat Xat in Northern Vietnam, combining challenging mountain trekking with local cultural experiences. The journey includes an overnight train to Lao Cai, treks through forests and terraced fields and stays in a local homestay at Nui Muoi.
The main challenge is the ascent of Bach Moc Luong Tu (Ky Quan San Mountain) at 3,046 meters, one of the highest peaks in Vietnam. Along the route, you will pass through ethnic minority villages, mountain forests and steep trails while enjoying views across the northern highlands.

You can explore the Old Quarter, visit the Temple of Literature or the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. Alternatively, simply relax and prepare for the challenging mountain trek ahead.
In the evening, transfer to Hanoi Railway Station and board the overnight train to Lao Cai. Traveling by train is a convenient way to reach the northern mountains while experiencing one of Vietnam’s traditional forms of long-distance travel.

Arrive in Lao Cai in the morning and transfer to Sang Ma Sao in Bat Xat District. After breakfast, meet your local trekking guide and begin the first major section of the Bach Moc Luong Tu trek.
The route covers approximately 14 km and takes around 7 hours, depending on weather and trail conditions. The terrain includes forest paths, terraced rice fields, gentle sections and steep uphill trails.
Along the way, pass through remote mountain landscapes and local communities in Bat Xat. Take a break for a picnic lunch before continuing towards Nui Muoi, located at around 2,100 meters above sea level.
Arrive at the local homestay and enjoy a traditional dinner. This community-based stay provides an opportunity to experience local life and the simple lifestyle of people living in the northern highlands.

Start early after breakfast for the most challenging part of your Bach Moc Luong Tu adventure.
The trek to the summit takes approximately 5 hours and follows steep mountain trails through forests and rugged terrain. As you gain altitude, the landscape changes from dense vegetation to open mountain ridges with wider views across the northern highlands.
Reach the summit of Bach Moc Luong Tu (Ky Quan San) at approximately 3,046 meters above sea level. Take time to enjoy the mountain scenery and rest before beginning the descent.
After a picnic lunch, trek back towards Nui Muoi. The return journey follows the mountain trails through the forest and takes several hours.

After breakfast, begin the final trekking section through the Bat Xat highlands. The route covers approximately 14 km and takes around 6 hours, depending on trail conditions.
Continue through forests, terraced fields and rural villages while enjoying the changing mountain scenery. Along the way, you may see local farmers working in the fields and experience the quieter side of Northern Vietnam.
After completing the trek, meet your vehicle and transfer to Lao Cai Railway Station.
