Your cruise begins when we meet you at the DOT Grill restaurant in Phnom Penh’s central riverside area at 9 am, from where we’ll transfer you to our private dock and onto the Mekong Dawn boat.
On board you will be met by our Cruise Manager with a welcome drink and checked into your cabins.
Once on board the ship sets sail for a gentle cruise down the river toward the old mountain capital of Udong. You will enjoy a delicious lunch on board as we sail down the historic Tonle Sap… From the new, ever developing, capital of Phnom Penh with its high rise buildings, to the historic capital of old.
Dock around 2:30pm in Koh Chen, where local craftsmen work with silver and other materials.
You will be transferred to the nearby Udong mountain, where a brisk climb takes you to one of the finest views in the Kingdom. From 1618 to 1866 this served as Cambodia’s capital city and an array of interesting stupas, tombs and memorials remain. Enjoy a choice of sunset either atop the mountain or back at the boat.
In the evening you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner on board.
We dock here in the peaceful vicinity of Koh Chen for the night.
The boat will begin its gentle ride toward Kampong Chhnang as the sun rises, but you can take your time to rise for breakfast as you feel comfortable.
The ride from Koh Chen to Kampong Chhnang is one of the most scenic on the Tonle Sap, as you pass floating villagers and fishermen, children waving from the shores all the while.
Enjoy lunch as we cruise in the stunning surroundings of Kampong Chhnangs floating villages before arriving and dock in Kampong Chhnang town itself. Having allowed for the hottest time of the day to pass, we transfer to the local port in smaller boats for visits to the town’s famous pottery villages. The word ‘Chhnang’ literally means pottery in Khmer and local craftsmen travel and sell their wares throughout the Kingdom. We can visit the villages either with a gentle bike ride or by local ‘tuk tuks’, either way you will be able to take in the beautiful scenery of this province, with its flat landscape dotted with palm trees, mountain views and lush rice paddies.
Return to the Mekong Dawn for sun downers over the river and surroundings.
We enjoy dinner here before bedding for the night.
As you enjoy an easy breakfast amongst the beautiful surrounding and floating villages of the Kampong Chhnang area of the Tonle Sap, we float on toward our next stop today, Kampong Tralach. A local rural area of natural beauty, you will dock amongst the rice paddies.
After lunch step back in time as you enjoy a ride in a traditional local Ox-cart through the Cambodian villages!
Return to the boat for a relaxed evening on board with dinner and drinks served amongst the rural splendor of this very scenic spot along the river.
An early start today as we head along the river to Prek Kdam before disembarking and transferring onward toward Siem Reap by luxury air-conditioned coach.
Arrival in Siem Reap around 2:30pm at the Siem Reap branch of the FCC hotel & restaurant in time to fully enjoy your visit to the heart of Cambodia’s temple town.
