Detailed Itinerary
Breakfast & Lunch & Dinner
Our driver will pick you up from your hotel/guesthouse at 6:30 AM, and transport you to the boat pier. The boat leaves at 7:00 AM for the upstream cruise to Pakbeng.
French breakfast is served on board after the introduction of the crew.
Shortly thereafter, we will stop to visit the famous Pak Ou Caves (Tham Ting) and its thousands of Buddha images. For lunch, local food is served onboard. Then, you will have free time for relaxing in the afternoon, until the boat arrives in Pakbeng at dusk.
You will be served a typical snack and drink on board in the afternoon.
Here, you will retreat to your accommodation for the night.
Pak Ou Caves

The guide will meet you on the boat at 06:45 AM, which departs at 07:00 AM for continuing the trip up to Houay Xay. On the way, we visit a Hill Tribe village. Our guide will explain the way of living and the origins of these rural populations.
After, lunch will be served on board.
A final, brief stop has to be made in Pak Tha for having necessary boat documents signed. Then, before arrival in Houay Xay, we will initiate your palate to local flavors by offering a tasting of seasonal fruits, drinks, snacks. Arrival in Houay Xay will be around 5:00pm, allowing for the possibility of continuing your journey into Thailand on the same day.

What's included
- Transfer in Luang Prabang from your hotel to SHOMPOO CRUISE office pier and vice-versa.
- Transfer from Laos immigration to slow boat Pier at Houay Xay for downstream and vice-versa for upstream program.
- Crew service during the cruise.
- Admission fees for visiting sites serviced by our English speaking guide.
- Lunch on board as mentioned in the program (except for charter boat). Drinking bottled water, coffee, tea during the whole cruise.
What's excluded:
- Shuttle boat from Houay Xay to Chiang Khong and vice-versa.
- Visa/immigration and/or overstay fees in Laos or in Thailand.
- Accommodation and meals in Pakbeng.
- Personal insurance.
- Beverages, personal expenses, and tips.
- Other expenses not mentioned above.
Cancellation by Customer
Please note that some services such as flights, hotels and other bookings may have cancellation fees once they have been confirmed and paid. Any applicable supplier cancellation fees will be charged to the traveler.
The following are the maximum cancellation fees that may apply:
- After booking confirmation: Any applicable cancellation fees charged by airlines, hotels, or other suppliers.
- 11–20 days before arrival: Up to 20% of the total tour price, plus any applicable cancellation fees charged by airlines, hotels, or other suppliers.
- 3–10 days before arrival: Up to 30% of the total tour price, plus any services already used or any applicable cancellation fees or penalties charged by airlines, hotels, or other suppliers.
- Less than 3 days before arrival, during the tour, or in case of no-show: Up to 100% of the total tour price, limited to 10% management fee and the actual costs incurred, including services already used and any applicable cancellation fees or penalties charged by airlines, hotels, or other suppliers
Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or change your trip. We will always do our best to minimize any cancellation costs where possible.
Children Policy
- Children under 5 years old: Travel free of charge when sharing a room and meals with a full-paying adult. Any applicable airfare, entrance fees or additional expenses will be charged separately.
- Children aged 5 to under 11: Pay 50% of the adult rate when sharing a room and services with a full-paying adult.
- Children aged 11 and above: Pay the full adult rate.
Please note: The child rates apply when children share a room and services with a full-paying adult. Additional charges may apply for extra beds, private rooms, special meals or other services requested for children. Child rates may also vary depending on the specific tour, hotel policy and services included.
